Sustainability
The Arc’teryx Gamma is a top-ranked choice for sustainability, meeting all of our product-level criteria and many brand-level standards. The Gamma features a recycled nylon body fabric, though Arc’teryx does not disclose the exact percentage of recycled content. These pants also incorporate Bluesign-approved body and lining fabrics, along with a PFAS-free durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment. Lastly, the Gamma is manufactured in a Fair Trade Certified factory, like many of Arc’teryx’s newer products.
Arc'teryx has made significant progress in its sustainability initiatives, particularly through its comprehensive repair services and its ReGear resale and recycling programs. While its parent company, Amer Sports, publishes an annual impact report, Arc’teryx also produces its own, providing detailed reporting on its greenhouse gas emissions. However, the brand falls short in its packaging efforts—unlike many other gear brands that have taken steps to reduce packaging and integrate recycled materials, Arc’teryx has yet to make meaningful progress in this area. Overall, we think the Gamma is an excellent choice if you're looking for more sustainable hiking pants.
Below we break down in detail all of the Gamma Pant's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best hiking pants and our review of the Gamma Pant.
