Sustainability
The Hoka Anacapa 2 Low GTX is one of the most sustainable hiking shoes we tested. It features leather sourced from suppliers certified to Leather Working Group (LWG) standards, and its Gore-Tex fabric contains 70% recycled polyester. Additionally, the Anacapa 2 incorporates recycled mesh, collar, and tongue lining materials. Its waterproof membrane and durable water-repellent (DWR) coating are also PFAS free. However, this shoe does not contain Bluesign-approved materials.
Beyond the Anacapa 2’s strong product-level sustainability features, Hoka uses 98% recycled and certified packaging materials across all its products. As a company, Hoka tracks its carbon footprint and environmental impact through the Higg Index via its parent company, Deckers Brands, which also publishes a comprehensive annual impact report. However, Hoka does not meet our criteria for responsible manufacturing. Even so, the Anacapa 2 Low GTX stands out as a top-tier sustainable hiking shoe.
Below we break down in detail all of the Anacapa 2 Low GTX's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best hiking shoes and our review of the Anacapa 2 Low GTX.
