Sustainability
Updated:
Jan 23, 2026The Patagonia Stormshadow Parka is one of the most sustainable winter jackets we’ve reviewed. Like all waterproof Patagonia products, the Stormshadow features a PFAS-free waterproof membrane and durable water-repellent treatment. Additionally, all of the fabrics used in the Stormshadow are Bluesign approved. The jacket is insulated with 100% recycled down insulation, and the shell material and membrane are made of 100% recycled polyester sourced in part from ocean plastic. The jacket’s lining, chin guard, and pocket lining are also made of recycled polyester. To top it off, the Stormshadow is made in a Fair Trade Certified factory, ensuring fair wages and working conditions for the people who make it.
At the brand level, Patagonia leads the outdoor industry in reducing environmental impact. Patagonia’s repair services and Worn Wear resale program help you extend the life of your gear, and its recycling services keep your gear out of the landfill. Additionally, all of Patagonia’s packaging is made of recycled or Forest Stewardship Council-certified materials. The brand tracks its greenhouse gas emissions and is targeting net-zero emissions by 2040. Unlike most brands, which publish an annual impact report, Patagonia maintains an online platform detailing its progress toward emissions reduction, material sourcing, and other sustainability initiatives. All in all, we think the Stormshadow is a top-tier choice if you’re looking for a more sustainable winter jacket.
Below, we break down in detail all of the Stormshadow Parka's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best winter jackets and our review of the Patagonia Stormshadow Parka.
