Sustainability
The Black Diamond Fineline Stretch is an average option for sustainability among rain jackets. The Fineline Stretch features a durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment and a waterproof membrane that is PFAS free. However, the jacket does not contain Bluesign-approved or recycled materials. Black Diamond also does not utilize responsible manufacturing practices, such as Fair Trade Certified (FTC).
Black Diamond will repair apparel regardless of warranty status, and 35% of the cardboard packaging contains recycled content. The company is using Higg Index tools to track its greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact. Still, it does not produce an annual impact report with data on its sustainability progress. While the Fineline Stretch is an okay choice for sustainability, competing jackets from brands such as REI and Patagonia are superior in this regard.
Below we break down in detail all of the Fineline Stretch's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best rain jackets and our review of the Fineline Stretch.
