Sustainability
Updated:
Mar 18, 2026Like other Osprey daypacks, the Manta (women’s Mira) is a strong sustainability choice. Its primary, lining, and bottom fabrics, as well as its mesh, are all 100% recycled and Bluesign approved. Additionally, the Manta is a Bluesign Product, meaning at least 90% of its textiles and 20% of its accessories are Bluesign approved. The pack also provides PFAS-free water resistance, thanks to the non-fluorinated durable water-repellent treatments on its fabrics.
Osprey participates in several sustainability initiatives at the brand level. The company offers a robust repair service and fixes any damage or defect free of charge, regardless of when the product was purchased. It also uses 100% recycled poly bags and either recycled or Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper products for packaging. Osprey’s parent company, Helen of Troy, tracks its greenhouse gas emissions, has emissions reduction goals, and publishes an annual impact report, although it is not as specific as others we have seen. While Osprey fails to provide resale or recycling programs or meet our responsible manufacturing standards, its overall efforts still make it one of the more environmentally responsible outdoor companies.
Below, we break down in detail all of the Manta's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best hiking daypacks and our review of the women's Mira 22.
