Sustainability
Updated:
Mar 09, 2026Rab is making strides in sustainability, and the Downpour Light reflects some of this progress. This jacket features a waterproof membrane and durable water-repellent (DWR) finish that are PFAS free. It also incorporates some recycled materials (albeit minimal), with 9% of trims and 2% of zips being recycled. As a brand, Rab offers free repairs under warranty and fixes nearly any damaged product for a fee through its repair center, which repaired an impressive 20,000 products in 2023. Rab also offers a rental service for niche items needed for limited times or specific trips. In terms of packaging, Rab has reduced poly bag use by 70% since 2021, increased the use of recycled poly bags, and it recycles the bags after use. Additionally, Rab tracks its greenhouse gas emissions, has reduction targets, and reports on its progress annually. All in all, the Downpour Light meets most of our sustainability criteria.
Below we break down in detail all of the Downpour Light's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best rain jackets and our review of the Downpour Light.
