Sustainability
The XeroCloud 3L is another great option for sustainability from REI. The jacket is intentionally manufactured with a shell fabric made from entirely recycled materials (72% recycled nylon and 28% recycled polyester). This recycled shell fabric is also Bluesign approved. To top it off, the durable water-repellent finish and waterproof membrane are made without PFAS. Lastly, the jacket is produced in a Fair Trade Certified (FTC) factory, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and a decreased environmental impact.
As a brand, REI tracks its carbon footprint and aims to reduce its emissions. In the meantime, the brand offsets its footprint by purchasing carbon credits, making it a Climate Neutral Certified company. REI also has a robust resale program for used gear called Re/Supply, which helps keep products in circulation and out of landfills. For its packaging, the company also uses recycled paper-based products and has significantly decreased its plastic use. REI clearly outlines its efforts to reduce its environmental impact in its Planet Report, highlighting progress on emissions reduction goals and the use of preferred materials. Overall, the XeroCloud 3L is among the top-rated rain jackets for sustainability.
Below we break down in detail all of the XeroCloud 3L's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best rain jackets and our review of the XeroCloud 3L.
